İstanbul İlinde Sahipli Köpeklerde Leishmania Hastalığının Seroprevalansı

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 214 - 222, 31.08.2023

Abstract

The Seroprevalence of Leishmania Disease in Owned Dogs in Istanbul Province

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 214 - 222, 31.08.2023
https://doi.org/10.51754/cusbed.1288702

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the seroprevalence of Leishmaniosis in dogs of different breeds, ages and genders, owned and cared for at home in Istanbul by both Immunochromatographic (SensPERT one step rapid Leishmania Ab) test method and ELISA (Biopronix Leishmania 96) method. In addition, the results of the two test methods were compared among themselves in terms of reliability. For this purpose, 94 owned and home dogs brought to private veterinary clinics in Ataşehir, Kadıköy, Ümraniye, Şişli and Beyoğlu districts of Istanbul were taken as samples. The serums of the blood samples taken were removed and Leishmania antibody was scanned with rapid test kits, and the remaining serums were kept in the laboratory at +40C to be studied by ELISA method and when sufficient samples were formed, the study was performed. Of the 94 dogs, the number of males was 40 and the number of females was 54, of which 50 showed symptoms while 44 had no clinical signs. The samples included 58 dogs under the age of 3, while 11 dogs over the age of 8 were sampled. According to the test results, it was determined that the same results were obtained in both methods and 1 case had a positive reaction and the seroprevalence was determined as 1.06%. The obtained seroprevalence rate was seen among other studies conducted in Turkey (0%-60%) and Istanbul (0%-8.5%).It is thought that the detection of infected dogs is important because the dogs that are reservoirs for Leishmania disease carry this disease asymptomatically. This situation poses a serious danger. For this reason, it is considered that regular seroprevalence studies should be carried out.
