Hemşirelerin Etik Karar Verme Düzeyi İle Profesyonel Benlik Kavramları Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Year 2018, Volume: 11 Issue: 2, 105 - 112, 01.05.2018

Abstract

Year 2018, Volume: 11 Issue: 2, 105 - 112, 01.05.2018

Abstract

Objective: The study has been conducted to examine the relationship between ethical decision making levels and professional self-concepts
of nurses’.Methods: Descriptive and relational study’s sample is consisted of 358 nurses working at a university hospital. Data were
collected by Sociodemographic Information Form, Professional Self-Concept Scale in Nurses and "Nursing Dilemma Test ". Results:
Professional Self-Concept Scale of nurses mean overall score 111.22±12.58, professional satisfaction subscale mean score 13.17±3.37,
professional competence subscale mean scores 22.64±3.13 and professional attitude and skill subscale mean scores 75.31±8.46 was
determined. Ethical Dilemma test’s principled thinking mean score of nurses 49.44±6.28, practical considerations 18.17±3.80 and familiarity
mean score is 15.05±4.14. A positive significant weak relationship (r=0.19, p<0.01) was found between professional self concept and ethical
thinking levels of nurses and a negative significant weak relationship between professional self concept and familiarity levels of nurses (r=-
0.19, p<0.01). Conclusion: Nurses mostly act according to ethical principles when they are faced with ethical issues and they are influenced
by environmental factors while making an ethical decision. Professional attitude and skill levels of nurses are associated with their ethical
decision making processes. In this context, developing professional self-concepts is thought to affect nurses’ ethical decision making
processes positively
