Can We Prevent or Reduce the Severity of Depression with Nutrients?

Abstract

In the review, the relationship between depression and the consumption of macronutrients and some micronutrients was examined. Nutrition can be a way of life that can affect not only the physiological, but also the physiological and social aspects of individuals’ lifestyles and moods. In order to maintain a healthy life for a lifetime, it is extremely important to have a state of well-being in terms of mental health. There is a two-way relationship between depression and food. While the diet of the individual affects the mental integrity in terms of neurotransmitter synthesis; at the same time, mental integrity also affects the diet. Lack of nutrients can disrupt neural functioning and lead to mental health problems such as depression. The field of study that appears as nutritional psychiatry sheds light on the present day by investigating the relationship between mental health and nutrients and diet. It was concluded that the sustainability of the diet pattern, various macro and micronutrients, especially the Mediterranean diet type nutrition model and nutritional supplements may be associated with the risk of depression, but randomized controlled clinical studies are needed to fully reveal the relationship between depression and nutrient.

Depresyonu Besin Öğeleri ile Önleyebilir veya Şiddetini Azaltabilir Miyiz?

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 3, 492 - 500, 30.12.2023
https://doi.org/10.51754/cusbed.1259315
