PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF NOISE IN INTENSIVE CARE UNITS

Öz

Noise is the most common source of environmental stress. It is observed that the noise levels in the intensive care units are well above the recommended levels. It has been shown in the literature that noise causes physiological and psychological effects on patients, and World Health Organisation has defined this situation as an international health problem. The perception of noise depends on the person's health status, age and gender, and the frequency, duration, intensity and form of the noise are among the situations that change the degree of influence. Due to these effects, due to the protective role of health personnel, a psycho-social and physically safe environment should be provided to the people they care for. In this direction, intensive care nurses have very important duties to protect patients from the negative effects of noise.

Öz

Gürültü en yaygın çevresel stres kaynağıdır. Yoğun bakım ünitelerindeki gürültü seviyeleri önerilen seviyelerin çok üstünde olduğu gözlenmektedir. Gürültünün hastalar üzerinde fizyolojik ve psikolojik etkilere yol açtığı literatürde belirtilmiş olup Dünya Sağlık Örgütü bu durumu uluslararası bir sağlık sorunu olarak tanımlamıştır. Gürültüyü algılama kişinin sağlık durumuna, yaşına ve cinsiyetine bağlı olup gürültünün frekansı, süresi, şiddeti ve formu da etkilenme derecesini değiştiren durumlar arasındadır. Bu yarattığı etkiler sebebiyle sağlık personelinin koruyucu rolü gereği, bakım verdiği kişilere psiko-sosyal ve fiziksel açıdan güvenli bir çevre sağlanmalıdır. Bu doğrultuda yoğun bakım hemşirelerine hastaları gürültünün olumsuz etkilerinden korumak için çok önemli görevler düşmektedir.
