The Relationship Between Spiritual Well-Being, Adherence to the Disease, and Comfort Level in Hemodialysis Patients
Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the spiritual well-being, adherence to the disease and comfort levels of individuals receiving hemodialysis treatment and to determine the relationship between the three variables.
Methods: This study was conducted with 180 patients who were receiving treatment in hemodialysis units and met the study criteria. The study data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, Spiritual Well-Being Scale, End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire, and Hemodialysis Comfort Scale. To analyse the data, descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test Pearson’s correlation and multivariate linear regression analysis were utilised.
Results: The total mean score of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale was determined as 109.44±17.15, the total mean score of the End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire was determined as 1029.03±160.84, and the total mean score of the Hemodialysis Comfort Scale was determined as 24.89±6.78, and a positive, weakly significant (p<0.05) relationship was obtained between the mean scores of the three scales.
Conclusion: It was determined that the spiritual well-being, adherence to the disease, and comfort levels of patients undergoing hemodialysis were at a moderate level, and as the level of spiritual well-being increased in individuals, their adherence to the disease and comfort levels increased.
