Abstract

Lower Urinary System Symptoms and Relationship with Sexual Quality of Life in Women with Diabetes

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 207 - 213, 31.08.2023

Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the level of lower urinary system symptom severity and the relationship between symptom severity and sexual quality of life in women diagnosed with diabetes. In the descriptive and cross-sectional study, 426 women diagnosed with diabetes who were under treatment in the obstetrics, internal medicine and endocrinology outpatient clinic of a university hospital between June and December 2022 were included. Data were obtained using the diagnostic form, the Bristol Female Lower Urinary System Symptom Index (BFLUSSI), and the Sexual Quality of Life Scale-Female (SQLS-F). The mean BFLUSSI score of women with diabetes was 18.26±11.37, and lower urinary system symptom severity was found to be low. It was determined that the mean SQLS-F score of the women was 56.45±17.10 and the level of sexual life quality was moderate. It was found that there was a weak negative correlation between BFLUSSI and the mean scores of SQLS-F (r=-0.363; p<0.01); lower urinary tract symptom severity was found to explain 13% of the total variance in the quality of sexual life (R=0.193, R2=079, F=5.408, p<0.05). It was determined that as the lower urinary system symptom severity of diabetic women increased, the quality of sexual life decreased and the severity of lower urinary system symptoms was determinant on the quality of sexual life.
