Abstract

Autoimmune diseases are a set of diseases characterized by an abnormal immune response against the normal tissues of the body. These diseases are estimated to affect 3-5% of the population. The etiology of autoimmune diseases is not fully understood but has been associated with genetic, hormonal and environmental factors. Various pharmaceutical drug treatments are applied to autoimmune diseases in the clinic, but the high costs of these treatments have led to the search for different treatment methods. One of the different treatment methods is nutrition and dietary interventions. Research suggests that a healthy dietary pattern intervention can help both prevent and treat autoimmune diseases. Many studies have reported that dietary compounds such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin D, food eliminations in some autoimmune diseases, by showing anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, have therapeutic effects in autoimmune diseases. Diet as a modifiable factor has promising potential in the prevention and treatment of autoimmune diseases. The aim of this review is to address current nutritional and dietary approaches that are thought to be effective in the prevention and treatment of the most prominent autoimmune diseases, and to present perspectives on the role of nutrition in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

Otoimmün Hastalıklarda Güncel Beslenme Yaklaşımları

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 3, 484 - 491, 30.12.2023
https://doi.org/10.51754/cusbed.1204124
